National Kho Kho championship begins

Bhubaneswar : For the first ever Odisha Kho Kho Federation is hosting the 57th Senior National Kho Kho Championship commenced with grandeur at the District Sports Complex in Puri on Monday. The State federation took all the initiative to host the 5-day long senior national meet in a short notice of 20 days.
The highest number of 40 men’s and 40 women’s teams competing in the championship speaks about the growing interest about the Kho Kho sports,
Dignitaries present at the inauguration ceremony were the President of Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) Sudhanshu Mittal, General Secretary KKFI M.S. Tyagi, Odisha Kho Kho Association Secretary Pradyumna Mishra, and Rajya Sabha MP Subhashish Khuntia, along with other officials and eminent guests.
Rajya Sabha MP Subhashish Khuntia, said, “I have been a handball player and have competed at the district, state, and national levels. Kho Kho is all about teamwork and team spirit. The Nationals of any sport serve as a platform where states build relationships with one another. I wish all the players the very best and hope they excel in sports and in their life.”
Talking about the national championship the KKFI secretary M S Tyagi said “Odisha is the most sports enthusiast State in our country, hosting the senior kho kho championship for the first time with record number of participation is pride for all”.
Altogether 190 matches including 160 league and 30 knockout games to be held during the championship. The national championship adopted a new format, seven players with seven-minute matches. The Decision Review System (DRS) rule will be applicable from quarterfinal match onwards and the dream run point also introduced in this championship. However, in future national championships to enter the player as Wazir ”, added Tyagi. .
