6 teams to take part in the Odisha Women’s League

Bhubaneswar : Altogether six teams will participate in the Odisha Women’s League to be held at Kalinga Stadium and Capital High School here from February 12 to March 15. The Sports and Youth Services Department Secretary R Vineel Krishna unveiled the jerseys in presence of the participating teams captain and vice-captain here on Thursday.

SAI-STC, East Coast Railway, Odisha Police, Sports Odisha, OGP Club and defending champion Rising Student's Club are six teams that will take part in the double header league format. Odisha U-18 team added in the fixture as seventh team and they will be playing the matches for the development purpose and they would not be part of the points table.

This league is having a special importance as the State team will be finalised for the upcoming Indian Women's League.

The State Government has developed four international standard football grounds in Bhubaneswar city. It gives ample opportunities to our women footballers to make use of these infrastructure and excel in soccer sports, said Sports and Youth Services Department Secretary R Vineel Krishna while felicitating international women footballers Payri Xaxa and Manisa Panna.

I am so happy that I made my comeback to the National team last year, we had many international exposure tours last year including the Brazil friendly tour. Our Indian team played against many high ranking teams that helped us a lot to learn, said East Coast Railway team captain Manisa Panna.

Nowadays in our country women's football has changed a lot. The AIFF and Odisha Government are working together for the improvement of players as well as soccer sports in our country. I am excited to play here, said Odisha Police team captain Payri Xaxa.

Among others, Football Association of Odisha Joint Secretary Avijit Paul, OSD Sports Department Suvendu Panda, former Indian Women's team captain Sasmita Mallick and Sradhanjali Samantaray were present. .
