FM Soumya Ranjan Mishra wins Khordha District Chess meet

Bhubaneswar : FM Soumya Ranjan Mishra triumphed in the Khordha District Chess Championship 2024, edging out young Manish Mishra on a superior tie-break score after both finished with eight points each.

S R Mishra pocketed Rs 8000/ with a glittering trophy , Manish Mishra pocketed Rs 5000/ & Trophy IM S. Satyapragyan secured third place with 7.5 points and pocketed Rs 3500/ & Trophy , closely followed by Omm Aditya Khadanga and Sajan Kumar Nayak, also with 7.5 points, taking 4th and 5th places, respectively and winning cash award of Rs 2500/- & Rs 2000/-

The tournament concluded with a grand closing ceremony graced by esteemed guests, including Jagannath Pradhan (BJP Leader, Central Constituency Bhubaneswar), Priyadarshi Mishra (BJP Leader, North Constituency), Sister Lizy Thomas (Principal, St. Joseph High School), and notable chess figure IM S. Satyapragyan, Administrator Prochessta , Shakti Ranjan Mohanty (President, KDCA), Subhasis Patnaik (Secretary, KDCA), Swayangsu Satyakam (Tournament Director), and Saroj Behera (Joint Secretary, KDCA),Shri Satyaranjan Pattnaik , secretary SR Chess centre were also present.

This event showcased exceptional talent and enthusiasm, celebrating chess as a growing sport in the district. The event was well officiated by the team headed by IA Suresh Sahoo , IA Bhabesh Mohanty and IA Santosh Mohapatra .
